for one thing I could google it and find out myself but I'm taking the easy way out and asking you so you have to do the heavy lifting for me.
First...yes, that song is amazing... and that version is wonderful.
BUT... who did the 'original'... or perhaps NOT the original but the popular one that is played so much? - Jimmy
It was written by Lee Mendelson and Vince Guaraldi for the 1965 TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas, one of the first animated Christmas specials produced for network TV in the United States. Because the song became a hit, two versions were included on the album A Charlie Brown Christmas: an instrumental version by the Vince Guaraldi Trio and a vocal version by choristers from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in San Rafael, California.
So the first time anybody heard the song... was on the 1965 Charlie Brown Christmas special. It's been covered a zillion times by just about everybody from the Carpenters to Frank Sinatra to Take 6... if they've got a Christmas album, this song is probably on it.
