In one of the other dances they scored a "Crystal" which is not a 'placement', exactly...but rather the highest achievement they give out.... I just posted a second video "Bruno"...but I think the Crystal was award for the dance in the short clip I posted first.
It's really an amazing event, Mama... I tease about it some but in truth some of the dances, (not just us but all the dance schools from across the western USA they participate) can be astounding.
I saw one dance this year, not sure who, and they did the entire dance under this huge sheet of.... well, not sure what kind of material but had the sheen of silk. It was semi-transparent and I know it sounds weird but the artistry was simply amazing.
Plus the work these dancers put in.... it's off the charts. They work on these production numbers for a year. No sport comes anywhere near the 'practice' time of these dancers. Not even close.
Oh, just one more explanation... the dances are divided into categories.... age is one and also the 'type' of dance. The second video I posted, "Brunos", is in the Studio Production category and by far the most elaborate. Few of the dance schools enter this category because of the complexity to put one together.... but Jazzy D, my sister's dance studio, has scored highest in this category for so many years now I've lost count. They were invited to Washington D.C. this year to not compete but perform "Brunos".... alas, no chance in hell my sister's small studio can participate due to cost. - JamesJM
