Ashton, my 10yr old grandson, is actually quite young for the Junior team. Youngest on the team, in fact. These are almost all 11 and 12yr olds. There are 3 other ten's. And Ashton probably will never be tall.. his Dad is about my height.
BUT... he's currently the starting RLB and they are thinking about moving him to starting RDE... and not just for his speed, which he has, he's solid muscle. His Dad is like that.
On offense he may end up being their starting RB.. and not just RB... FB. There is competition, however. He was one happy kid this last Saturday when after the starters failed to get a first down they sent in Ashton and on his first ever carry as a Junior he scored from 50yds out, (they start on the 50 in scrimmages). After that, (I hear, I wasn't there), he did well but did get a taste of what big kids can do.
The size difference is amazing. He's #8, if you need to ask.
