I share her amazement at how caring people can be. My wife, Karen, struggled with chronic back pain for more than a decade, and fought breast cancer for six years. Everyone around us showed great concern and support for her. Then when she passed away, all my friends and family collapsed around me and enveloped me in support and compassion. They can't help with ALL of the grief... some of it is just mine. But they have been and are doing all they can.
One thing I learned is when you're really, really vulnerable your appreciation for things is magnified. What they saw as small acts of kindness were a big deal to me. I can see a little of that in Jenna's interview. I have tried to become more empathetic with people, especially when they lose someone close to them.
