Missouri is the champ?

Used to think it was California. Then maybe Arizona - New Mexico.... Missouri 4th or 5th. What am I talking about?

Those scenic and clever "yesteryear" locations along Route 66. On Facebook I belong to a historic Route 66 group where they post photos from various businesses that used to exist along route 66 - motels, diners, cafes, gas stations, etc.

California probably was the champ for unique and unusual buildings. Arizona and New Mexico a very close second.... but I think Missouri had the most Route 66 stops. Or so the Facebook Route 66 Group makes it seem.

I do not think I ever traveled Route 66 in Missouri during its heyday.... maybe, when I was very very young. I did try to follow it on my motorcycle trips back to watch the Rams a decade or so ago but, as you know, the original route is long gone. Either paved over or rerouted. That's sad. Not everything about today is better than the past. - JamesJM
