I saw that live.... or maybe it was taped? First airing in the USA anyway.

I wouldn't say he was 'out of control' all the way down. I think it's better described by saying he took every critical point on the course 'just over' what was possible... or at least beyond any thing he had yet attempted. He first got 'out of whack' very early in his run - just try to imagine the mental strength it took to not even hesitate for a second after near calamity and instead instantly attack the next critical point with equal near calamity.

I agree with you... I think this was one of the most momentous moments in all of sport. Secretariat, Miracle on Ice, Bobby Thompson, you can't mention any of those and leave out Franz's run that day.
