Starring George Clooney. Opens in theaters on Christmas Day.

Waterfield suggested this novel to me some years ago. I read it. It was excellent. But could cause a problem...

Whenever I read a novel that I liked a lot and then the movie comes out I have a great deal of trepidation. And for good reason... the movie almost never does the novel justice. That's no knock on Hollywood, however. It is nearly impossible to bring a novel to life in movie format. How can you condense 15-?? hours of reading into a 2.5 hour film? Even so, there ARE some exceptions in which the movie, IMHO, DID do justice to the novel... "Lonesome Dove" for example.... but equal to the novel? No, I don't think so, that has not been accomplished as yet IMHO.

I doubt if I see it in the theater, however. But see it I will! - JamesJM

George Clooney directed the movie, but he's not in the movie at all. I've seen him talking about the movie on various talk shows in the past couple of weeks.
