A friend of mine was free diving out at the deep kelp off Ventura County line when a pod came by him. He wrapped himself up in the kelp and they just swam past him w/o seemingly a glance.
I've been on a Panga styled boat coming back from diving in the Sea of Cortes when a bunch of these guys kept right in behind the small outboard motor like they wanted to jump in and eat us. My friend kept challenging me to dive over to see "what would happen". We turned off the outboard and I was getting ready but the pod totally disappeared. We continued our way back to shore-and up they came just chasing the small engine and its wake. They were simply playing with us and our little panga. Really fun to watch close up-then again not too "close up"-although there are plenty of divers who actually swim with them in the open ocean and I've never heard of an attack on a human.
