Re: Never been afraid of flying

Wasn't there another incident... can't remember all the details... a few years ago. I think the pilot was European, Egyptian... I just can't remember. I think he wanted to kill himself but he purposely crashed the plane and everybody on board died? Ring any bells?

Note: I had to look it up.

Germanwings Flight 9525[1] was a scheduled international passenger flight from Barcelona–El Prat Airport in Spain to Düsseldorf Airport in Germany. The flight was operated by Germanwings, a low-cost carrier owned by the German airline Lufthansa. On 24 March 2015, the aircraft, an Airbus A320-211, crashed 100 km (62 mi; 54 nmi) north-west of Nice in the French Alps. All 144 passengers and all six crew members were killed.[2][3]

The crash was deliberately caused by the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, who had previously been treated for suicidal tendencies and declared unfit to work by his doctor. Lubitz kept this information from his employer and instead reported for duty. Shortly after reaching cruise altitude and while the captain was out of the cockpit, Lubitz locked the cockpit door and initiated a controlled descent that continued until the aircraft hit a mountainside.

Flying is no longer something I want to do. Not just because of pilots cracking up but because it's become such an unpleasant thing to do these days. Once you reach your destination, all is well... but it's the getting there and then getting back home that's become such a hassle. Between cancellations, less leg room, smaller seats, flight delays, the risk of having your vacation ruined cause the airlines can't get you there on time, nickle & dimeing passengers to death for every little thing, baggage check-in and carry-on restrictions, fewer flights hence fewer flight choices, more walking from one terminal to another than I can handle, passengers behaving badly.... I'll just stay home.
