Yes, they are..

..and not only because of the awesome things they do and the awesome way they look and all that.. but, the fact that you can date a tree by the rings and find out so much other stuff.. Not to be morbid, but on n episode of Forensic Files, a guy burned his wife in a barrel with an oil based accelerant.. They were able, like 4-5 years later, to go in and get a tree sample and there was evidence of the oil based accelerant in the rings of the corresponding year.. How crazy is that?
