My favorite all time quote from a guitarist came from BB King. I can't remember the exact quote but paraphrased it was something like this -
"I don't worry about how many notes I can play. I just try to play the right ones"..... and he was referring NOT to missing notes but rather playing only the notes that made the song great.
When my drumming skills began to fade I began concentrating on tone, and nuance. LOVED it... stopped worrying about speed and just tried to sound better... even if I was the only one who could hear it. That worked for me... and well.... BUT....
At the same time I have to admit that watching great drummers on YouTube their speed still fascinates me as much as ever... and makes me as envious.
IOW, I ain't never going to be happy.
