The Daytona 500 is TODAY and I have heard almost nothing about it. What really blows me away is that I have not seen ONE person with a tee shirt of their favorite driver....house flags flying....car flags / magnets. Local Sports Radio has said nothing about it. I have not heard a single person chatting about it or ribbing another fan about their driver. I tell ya....25 years ago??? I'd see COUNTLESS cars driving through Jacksonville on I-95 or 295 with flags flying, statements in white show polish on the windows. All week, you'd see people in NASCAR t shirts in grocery stores, loading up. It was very much like Super Bowl week. At VERY best, I'm a casual observer of NASCAR. Might watch the last few laps of a race. But I sorta miss the hype.
I have always said....NASCAR has NOT recovered from Dale Earnhardt passing away.
