I like Allen. But if the goal is to run with more power and have better continuity (health) on the OL I don't think counting on him is the right move. And continuity at center matters a lot. The Rams could move on from Allen's contract in the spring while saving $2.6M in 2023 cap space.
Shelton carries just a $1.75M cap number in 2023 which is the kind of bargain, team friendly number they need at some positions to make the whole thing work.
Now of course putting Shelton at center shouldn't preclude them from drafting a center if/when one comes available of value. They could draft one as high as the 2nd or 3rd rounds knowing that Shelton can man the job until a rookie is ready, play RG, be a top interior backup, etc.
