The same goes for Morris and I don't mind saying it...
I thought he called his best game of the season.
It looked to me like Morris came into this game with a different game plan than normal.
I loved the one on one with Ramsey/Adams.
I saw what looked like "tighter" cushions.
I think I saw better adjustments to what the Raiders were trying to do.
The not playing Kendrick was a good call too!
(LOL!) That was the exact same defense and defensive philosophy that we've seen pretty much the whole year.
The Raiders are a good rushing team and the Rams have a good rush defense. What happened? Well, the Rams allowed more yards on the ground than usual, but I'd argue that was because we were giving time to inexperienced DL's who repeatedly (and inexplicably) gave up the edge on misdirection. But we pretty much bottled up Josh Jacobs who was held to under 100 yards. I thought that Greg Gaines and our LB's played a really good game. But our LB's, in particular, have consistently played well from jump.
Up until the bottom fell out on the season, the Ram defense had been limiting offenses to 18 ppg. Last night, they gave up 16 - par for the course.
Ramsey played Adams 1-on-1 for much of the game, but didn't travel with him all the time. This is how the Ram defense has played Adams for the past couple of years in Green Bay. Adams is a great receiver (might be best in the league) and got a couple on Ramsey. Ramsey battled back (like he always does) and prevented a big game. Helped that the Raiders really didn't have any other receiving threats (like the Seahawks) to divide his attention.
Knowing that points from the offense would continue to be limited, the Ram defense continued to employ the "bend-but-don't-break" scheme they've been using he whole year. Without Renfro, the Raiders were unable to develop any short game and, combined with our ability to stop the run...they had a tough time - just like most of the offenses we've played this year.
Contrast that with the Raider defense that decided to play more the way you'd like the Rams to play. I mean,,,you want Morris to call tighter coverage, right. That is you, right?
That Ram offense was setting itself on fire all night long with the miscommunication (understandable) and penalties. Raiders needed to sit back and keep everything in front of them and let us dink and dunk until the clock ran out.
But like I said yesterday...THEY'RE THE RAIDERS AND THIS IS WHAT THEY DO.
I know that you (and some others) don't want to acknowledge it, but the Ram defense has been playing well for much of the season. Their scheme is boring and not exactly what I prefer to see. But it's been effective given the circumstances it's been placed in. These are the facts regardless of what you claim to have seen.
But hey, if it makes you feel better to say/think that Raheem Morris took your advice...more power to you.
