It is SOP for the majority of coaches to coach to their system... not their players abilities. There are good reasons for that which isn't my point in this post but just to note: one good reason is coaching that way has been successful.
I don't like it, but that's me. There ARE a few coaches who coach to their players abilities... McVay is NOT one of them... he is probably the least like that. Again, that ain't 'necessarily' a bad thing. Coaches who DO... IMHO... are:
Bellichick, Reid, Carroll, Tomlin....maybe one or two more. And note: NO coach coaches entirely to system or player ability.
