Napoli made a very good point about the lack of organized drills. We did so many things as DBs that involved catching. I remember practicing catching the ball diving forward head-first, sliding under it feet-first, etc.
I twisted my right knee once in practice because I was covering a WR on a go, and the QB got his arm hit and under-threw the ball. I decelerated before the receiver did and arched my body backwards as the ball was coming down over my shoulders,. To make the catch, I needed to tuck my knees under my body as my momentum carried me forward. One foot got caught under my body, and the receiver fell on top of me trying to knock the ball away.
But I held on to that Int!
My brother said that I looked like John Stallworth making that last catch against Rod Perry in SB XIV.
We loved when the QB threw the ball because we all felt like it was up for grabs; it was our chance to take it away!
