And Jones' credential as an insider, according to Schein, is that he works for CBS and thereby "knows." Every reporter worth his salt has developed relationships with his sources and to concede the point, let's say that's true of Jones and the Rams. How is Jones different?
Saying with certainty that the Rams will make a trade before the deadline is a safe bet - given Snead's past history. It's like predicting rain before the monsoon season.
If he does, it's "See, I told you so!" If he doesn't it's "Gee, they tried, but just couldn't find a trade partner - who coulda seen that coming? "
Either way, sports reporters can pose as seers into the mystic beyond and draw attention to themselves; Schein and Jones can polish each other's apples. How about trying hard to do objective reporting and in-depth analysis and letting that stand without the false prop of "insider" status that doesn't exist beyond Rams management?
