Between the two of you... I get the idea - but not without your contributions.
I now have a better idea of why re: the shift to what looks like "soft" zone defenses, and wonder: What happens next?
If I were a meddlesome owner I might be pressuring my personnel guy to find me a big, hardnosed, running back - maybe not a Derrick Henry clone, but more of a Steven Jackson or Marshawn Lynch who can also pass-protect and catch passes out of the backfield, even short soft flares that at least get the back in space that somebody slower or smaller has to cover. Punish those players until the end of the game - soften them up. Lynch didn't get stronger as games wore on - his opponents got beat up, weaker.
Matchups. McVay exploits those. I'd want personnel to offset the matchups in my favor, moving in the retro-direction of more beef and quick-off-the-snap line play coupled with a punishing running back. If the D wants to play Fangio-style zone, make them pay.
I wonder what McVay will want, looking toward the future.
it is what makes the NFL the greatest sport on earth that no other major sport can compete with....it is constantly evolving and cycling in a constant chess match of schemes and strategies
the latest trend on defense is built to stop no other than our very own system which is built on trying to take away the big plays.....but McVay is too smart and innovative and is already figuring out how to take advantage of it.
