but players that were at the top of their positions because of skillsets and smarts and maximized their abilities. Just learned the game (had great knowledge) and skills for the role/position they had.
A bunch of that is subjective and need to be based on eye test and can't be quantified based on stats alone so the older players that I never have seen play were not in consideration for me.
For me, in baseball, Pete Rose, a chubby non athlete being the all-time hit king is pretty incredible and what Ozzie Smith did with that glove was legendary.
