Make a strong hire for head coach. Start there. The strong head coach hire will ensure recruiting is where it should be. He'll ensure they don't come up short at key positions plus maximize the talent they have.
This is the same old song and dance we saw at USC for so many years. Poor hires resulting in poor teams. This year USC has a strong HC and guess what.
Sometimes I think these ADs outsmart themselves. Look at any option long enough and you can convince yourself he's good enough. But if you want to be an elite force in college ball you cannot afford to make crappy hires. You just can't.
So if I'm running Notre Dame I'd fire the AD for making that hire. Then I'd fire the coach and let it be known the job is open and spend this season getting a head start on the top targets that I want to run the show. Again this is not brain surgery, compete for a top name and get him in there then go win games.
