He was brought in to run Wade Phillips' defense, the bend-don't break soft zone and big rush scheme designed to take away big passing plays from an O that is playing catch-up to compliment your own O taking an early lead.
He was brought in to run Staley's scheme-the Fangio scheme. Not the Wade Phillips scheme.
Little has changed---other than tweaks and personnel changes and specific calls which we have no idea about-but the philosophy is the same, the fronts are the same, the coverages are the same, the depth of the CBs is the same.
But Morris didn't change the scheme--except maybe for the reports that it was simplified early in the season because of inexperience in certain situations. There will always be tweaks, those would happen if Sayley stayed---but Morris is running the Fangio/Staley scheme---light box 5-1 with match zones behind it and with that Cover-2/4 shell look they can run Cov-2, Cov-3, Cov-4, Cove-6 with the right rotation. On pass downs they go to a 4-2-5 or a 4-2-5 with a safety as one of the LBers.
