Jalen Ramsey was the worst part of Rams’ rough 2022 NFL debut

It was a night to forget for the Los Angeles Rams – but particularly so for one of their biggest stars, cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The defending Super Bowl champions were trounced by the Buffalo Bills, 31-10, in the season opener at SoFi Stadium Thursday night, led by Josh Allen’s dominant three-touchdown performance. But his night appeared to be made easier by Ramsey’s struggles.

Per PFF’s preliminary grades, Ramsey was targeted seven times and allowed six completions for 124 yards and two touchdowns. He allowed a perfect passer rating when targeted, and got burnt on a deep touchdown to Stefon Diggs in the fourth quarter.

It would have been any ordinary rough night for Ramsey, the five-time Pro Bowler who signed a $105 million extension with the Rams in 2020. But it was made worse due to comments the notoriously chirpy star made earlier in his career about Allen in an interview with GQ.

“I think [Josh] Allen is trash,” Ramsey said in 2018. “I don’t care what nobody say. He’s trash. And it’s gonna show too. That’s a stupid draft pick to me. We play them this year, and I’m excited as hell.”

Allen has now played Ramsey’s team three times, having won all three games.

It was the second straight game Ramsey was exposed, after a brutal performance in the Super Bowl. In that game, a 23-20 victory for Los Angeles, the 27-year-old corner got beat for a deep touchdown by Tee Higgins, as well as multiple deep completions to Ja’Marr Chase. He allowed 160 total yards in coverage in that game.

Not exactly the best look for a player that likes to talk.
