Re: If that happens, it will drive the drafniks nuts

Somewhat.

The thinking the Rams have is that there is only the 1st 10 or so players on the board that are worth a 1st round draft pick. Once you get past that, there is a pile of guys in late round 1 through round 3 that are really hard to differentiate.

So it's really about giving up 1st round picks when your pick is in the 20's.

The fact that we have given up a lot of 2nd and 3rd rounders is probably not the Rams ideal choice, but they have come across players that they think are worth the trade.

high 1st round picks still have value, even to the Rams.

Also, the Rams have done some cap magic that will eventually catch up with them and they will have to rebuild in a few years so it's not necessarily the best plan for every team.

It is a gamble to sell away the future....BUT if you have a really strong team like Fisher built through the draft and can win now with a few key skill position players, you go ahead and mortgage the future.

If a team needs more than a few skills positions to get to the top, you will mortgage the future and probably still lose now.

Will the value of draft picks diminish as more teams adopt the Rams strategy?
