It was more a question of how much they'd need to clear to get it done. Not whether they'd get it done. Von changed this defense to a much better unit. He helped mask our DB problems. So they're gonna get him done it's just a matter of making the cap space.
Teams make room for top edge threats. So even Green Bay or Denver with the cap changes will still be after him. Thing is Von knows the best chance for a ring this year is LA and I believe he wants to play some more with AD.
Looking ahead to the 2022 season I imagine them drafting a good CB in rounds 3 or 4 to supplement that crew, maybe making a move at safety to settle that group down, and then benefitting from a better back end to complement a ferocious pass rush. Translation is that this team will probably start fast and finish fast with a home field advantage type season if they get Von back.
If they don't, Rams will still have a good defense it just won't be elite with a rotation on the blindside. But that is unlikely to happen.
