The Athletic put out a similar article: Rams can easily create cap space

February 18, 2022 03:56AM
The article clearly states that with the built-in restructures (meaning contract restructures that the Rams can do unilaterally), they can clear up $60 mil in cap space. And with a little co-operation from a couple of players, a nearly inevitable new contract for Stafford, they can achieve $70 mil of space. Add to that what will be Whit's retirement, and we can begin to understand why the Rams aren't sweating having plenty to accomplish everything they want to in the off season.

I suspect that a couple of guys they could re-sign, they might dither a bit and wait and see if they can sign someone else they think is better for about the same money. Center, RG, big RB, and CB come to mind.

I think the Rams know that adding fresh blood each year (of the right kind) and letting some otherwise pretty good players move on (like Brockers, Hill, and JJIII last year) has it's own benefits.

Bottom line: Rams are just fine in salary cap space and it won't be a barrier to resigning Miller.
