Waner fell in the Ram's lap... he was left for dead on the expansion waiver for Cleveland and luckily stayed in STL.
Vermeil somewhat fell in the Ram's lap too, since no coach in the right mind wanted to coach the Rams after Rich Brooks. Pete Carrol, Seifert and others turned down lucrative offers to coach in STL.. Vermeil wasn't even on the radar the Rams initially made their coaches list.
when opponents saw the 1999 schedule with Rams on their schedule, that was initially circled an easy win for the Ram's opponents....
2021 was your classic climb to the top... the Rams experienced a few seasons of grind, roster changes to climb and seize the mountain top. The regular season was much tougher, the division was much more competitive, and the conference was much tougher than in 1999....
