Not overvaluing draft picks and emphasis on WR position

Not overvaluing draft picks and emphasis on WR position is why the Rams are better than other NFL teams.

Remember the day of the practice squad guys they run out there - Gibson and Amendola (shoot Amendola was the star it was so bad)

McVay comes in and keeps replenishing the position

Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods
Cooks, Kupp, Woods
Kupp, Woods, Beckham (Get Beckham after losing Woods and Jackson)

But the Rams always seem to have multiple WRs. You can see how the Packers disregard for that need just killed them in that game against the 49ers. Shut down Adams and it is over. He got off to the great start and poof, he disappears, and much of the struggles with the Chiefs early in the season was related to a dinged up Hill as the Chiefs only have Kelse and Hill. No margin for error. The Packers wasting assets and never getting Adams a running mate is inexcusable.

The Rams gave up picks for Watkins and Cooks and it was well worth it as it was well worth it to get Matthew Stafford, Von Miller, and Jalen Ramsey and others including Watkins and Cooks.

These NFL teams all stink at draft picks. There are too many variables to project how a prospect's game will translate to the pro game, how the player works, takes care of his body, his preparation, his smarts, his ability to pick up game expanded game plans, and his health. You can try to research but too many unknowns that can't be researched as the players haven't really been in the fire yet.

Some stink more than others but the arrogance that they can find Aaron Donalds in the middle of the first round is so puzzling. It is a no brainer to give up a mid first round draft pick for an impact player but nobody seems to figure that out except the Rams. Draft picks are overvalued. The only reason I waffle a little bit is the salary cap. A 1st round pick that plays well has great salary cap value but if there were no salary cap, this would be a no brainer to always deal picks for impact players.

Those are the 2 reasons, as well as, an emphasis on a modern day offense, was the reason the Rams went from the purgatory of Fisher Ball to a competitive team that makes the playoffs every season and has a crack at making the superbowl. Getting Beckham in the season was a move that has paid off 100 times over. It completely changes everything that there is just enough of a threat that they can't throw the kitchen sink at Kupp and even though Kupp is the primary weapon, there is enough around him to protect him.
