We have safeties that, on run plays, are required to read the slot
players and based on the keys (block, release, etc) they get to
the edges to stop the run.

There "theory" on Staley's 5-1 is to clog the middle with the
gap-and-a-half, (A-and B gaps) the OLbers take the C gaps
and when it's a run (when it shows) the MLB scapes to
the hole or outside and the playside safety has to get his but to the
alley to stop outside runs.

So, that requires twin safeties rather than a classic strong and free

Whebn you do strong and free you often put the strong on the side
of the TE and he's more involved with the run game and the free safety
does his thing capping ling throws...
