No smoke and mirrors or jedi mind tricks. The 49'ers keep it simple and we didn't execute well. We lost 2 games to them under Staley and also - how many with Phillips as DC. This is not a coaching or coordinator issue but poor effort and execution by the players. Hopefully Ramsey and Miller can snap us out of the this funk with San Fran
McVay is definitely in a slump against the 49ers but the silver lining is that it isn't an absolute. He started his Rams career by taking the first 3 out of 4 against the 49ers in '17 & '18. Granted that's trending the wrong way but what did we have then that we haven't had since? A strong running game that we consistently use.
Michel is providing some of that. It isn't prime Gurley so it probably won't be enough all on it's own, but hopefully the balance we've been using more recently provides at least a neutralization of that particular advantage for the 49ers. Granted, that doesn't help our defense take a punch in the mouth, but if our guys aren't demoralized or complacent, I think they are playing well enough to contain their offense.
Michele and hopefully Akers can set 'em up, but it's likely going to fall on Stafford to be a positive difference maker. He's going to have to not only be productive, he's going to have to do it without making poor decisions and costly errors. The Rams are already in so it isn't a true defining moment, he'll get another chance, but it is an opportunity to make a statement. To rise up and perform like a winner and to take the division. It won't be encouraging at all if he reverts to Matthew Hyde.
