So, OK, having said all of that ... what does yesterday's game really tell us?
I think it tells us a lot of good things. The defense is not going to get as many 3 & outs as we want, and they give up some yards in the air. I think in the game they showed us at, like #22 in passing yardage yielded. But our run defense has improved by several orders of magnitude. And we are tough in the red zone, as all know. They have played very well in the last 2 games.
Our STs have settled down. No big blunders. Solid kicking. Though why Kupp still returns kicks is beyond me.
The offense, IMO, looked excellent yesterday. The running game? Fabulous. Lots of good passing plays. I think the 3 TOs obscured a very fine performance. I mean, Stafford spread the ball around so much better than he often has! I think McV called one of his best games: balance, patience, no panic. 0 turnovers and we woulda scored a lot of points.
But of course M S made those turnovers. Two of which were braindead blunders.
I have nothing to say about M S that hasn't been said a million times. He is having a superb year in general. But he has inaccurate stretches for reasons I can't figure out. I think it has to be physical. And he makes those turnovers.
I just think he is too determined to make plays that aren't there. But then, let's remember something.
Many of the impossibly accurate throws he makes into miniscule windows are the same decisions that can result in turnovers. Hit the pass and we love it. Miss and get picked and everyone asks "What was he thinking?" He was thinking the same thing as he was on the incredible completion.
I hope he learns to trust in his team as we go into the playoffs. He is playing with great players. He doesn't need to make heroic plays all the time.
But then, he is the guy who went 14/14 for 2 TDs in the 4th Q yesterday. He is showing us that he is a clutch QB who can make big plays down the stretch. That's a very rare gift, and my 1st post in this thread tells you what I think of it.
If this guy can keep winning 4th Qs, then I'll gladly accept some early game blunders.
