The key to this defense is the back end. The safety usage flipping them back to front at the snap is also something Staley showed a lot of creativity with and it's a hot trend now in the league and rightly so. Basically baiting teams to run the ball into an 8 man box when done right and you also have the strengths of an aggressive two-deep secondary scheme when called well.
So I'd be very surprised to see him promote a DL type to the DC position. More likely is they let him take the job if he wants it and go get a new DL coach.
