Jimmy G. is on one of only a handful of teams that can maximize his talent. He is truly the poster boy of a "system QB". That is, he is limited in his abilities, but when put in a system that protects him by limiting his weaknesses and playing to his strengths, then he is a "B" NFL QB. Strong running game, short passing offense with great RAC playmakers and a very good D. In the end, he is a middle of the pack NFL QB. He'll win you some games and lose you some games. He could probably start and be an upgrade to half of the teams in the NFL... provided they built the right system around him.
San Fran didn't spend a ton of draft capital to pick up Trey Lance because they thought Jimmy G. was the QB they needed to win consistently.
Great summation of the situation in SF. When the run game is rocking (they were without Mitchell last night) and they're getting RAC from Samuel and Kittle Jimmy is effective as a game manager. When he has to make longer throws or go off the books he struggles.
He should have thrown a third INT deep in his own territory and also missed his wide open FB for an easy TD.
Rams need to seriously watch tape from last night's game. Titans contained Kittle as well as anyone's done it all year. Samuel was another matter. He's not a WR or a RB. He's a weapon.
