as a rookie he was laughable He just looked so overmatched... I am not sure what they saw in him. But I was obviously wrong. His speed has increased 10 fold. I remember seeing him in some of his first pre-season and literally laughing at how incapable he was... waddling around and weak. By comparison Tutu looks like a future all-pro...
But as an armchair GM... Tutu is a joke. He catches the ball with his hands and he is a true WR and he has tons of speed. But he looks like he has the durability of an egg and if the wind hits him the right way he is on the ground. I simply don't see how he can be counted on. I simply don't like counting on someone who appears that fragile. He appeared injured after every tackle and he has yet to actually be hit hard. Honestly, like the Gaines pick, its mind-blowing. However Gaines was picked in the 5th round I think... not the second. So the wasted Gaines pick didn't bother me. But the Tutu pick does... I just hope it turns out the same way and Tutu becomes a solid contributor.
Like you, I don't really second guess the picks. I kind of think they are more of an expert on the Rams' needs than I am. And I definitely don't care about who was picked after the Rams pick. Just because someone is excelling this season doesn't mean there isn't something that we didn't see in their scouting. They actually gather info on these players that we, as fans, just can't do. So Nick Bolton might be all-world but that is what we see on the field... what don't we see? He could be a zero pillars guy or just didn't pass some test the Rams scouts do... we will never know... but we can look after the fact and say how wrong the Rams were... As fans, that's our job.
