They shouldn't have put him right in front of the kicker. That's making it easy for the kicker. You want to stash those guys in an onside situation and generally it's tougher for a kicker to get the ball to a meathead if he's near the sideline. Far easier to kick it the right strength to go a straight ten yards in front of you than to slant it and have more things that can go wrong like the ball not travelling far enough or going out of bounds.

That is just another strike for our ST coach. IMO.
