Here’s what I see watching our offense now.

Henderson is small, gets dinged constantly, and isn’t explosive. His longest run this year is 29 yards in week 2. His longest TD run is 2 yards.

The interior OL is getting manhandled. Stafford is getting constant pressure in his face.

So we have a pedestrian running game and we can’t protect our drop back QB where it counts the most.

These aren’t excuses, this is reality.

The inner balance of the team is off. Losing Woods was huge. At best, it will take time to integrate OBJ into the offense where it can operate smoothly. Right now, the chemistry is messed up and that results in guys unsure of what everyone is doing out there.

This is not how McVay envisioned the offense in the offseason. Too many pieces have changed. He’s got 2 weeks to pull it together. A 3rd straight loss in GB is likely at this point. That hasn’t happened to McVay since the 9-7 season in 2019. Coincidentally, that was the last time we had a pedestrian running game and a drop back QB getting pressure in his face.

I haven’t given up, but the signs point to too much to overcome.

Here’s my rebuttal.

Hendo and Michel are just fine for our purposes. Neither is All Pro but they are plenty good enough, if used. They simply need to be used more. McVay called only 9 runs vs 49ers? Mind boggling in retrospect. C’mon…

The interior OL has looked bad in the last 2 games but were just fine in the first 8 games. So, what changed? Well, for one thing Allen is being asked to play through an injury. For another, opponents have been attacking us differently there in these last 2 games. Carberry has to figure out an appropriate counter or this will just continue. Point is that this is fixable.

I completely agree that the inner balance is off and on both sides of the ball. Woods was a huge loss and the timing could not have been worse.

McVay needs to call more running plays and instruct Stafford to just take what the given D is giving him on any given play. Stop with the deep throws into double coverage, dammit!

Morris needs to throw out that passive soft zone crap and unleash the inherent aggressivity of DW and others. If he will do this we will once again see lots of 3 and outs by this D and our O will resume getting lethal possessions.

Honestly, it’s largely on our coaches right now as to whether we return to serious SB contenders or whether we continue to be @#$%& slapped and outcoached every week.

Your call, Sean McVay.
