The problem here is the disparity between the stats and optics. This defense makes too many plays look easy. There have been times they have been effective, but often it's because of injuries, drops, bad QB play, penalties, or missed assignments by the offense. Generally, effective offenses receive little resistance from this unit until the red zone or if the pass rush gets home.
This is just the fan in me, but I believe Morris applies pressure in spots to be less predictable. Haslett did it ALL THE TIME, and the defense was regularly gashed. Nevertheless, I expect Morris to develop better blitzes, occasional bump and run coverages, and a larger volume of pressure packages going forward. He probably would've done so against the Niners if DD had been healthy though I doubt it would've mattered in that game.
So while I agree that the Rams are better than the posts you are refuting, it requires faith to believe this defense is actually good. I would say it's potentially very good but still in progress. Coordinators always have to guess and gamble based on what they expect from the opponent. I'd say Morris is somewhere in the median in that regard. So far, I don't know anyone who thinks he is a genius D Coordinator.I guess we will see...
