Personally I dont think Fuller has been bad this year. Somewhat less than 2020? Sure. But the whole defense has. And I do think it speaks to scheme. I think he is a quality starter at safety though. It is Williams, though, that is either a major regression or held back by a more passive scheme or both. Think back to the pick 6 vs SEA in the playoffs and there has been nothing close to that aggression from him in 2021.
I can definitely see Rochell growing into a CB2 role for 2022 but they are going to need more depth going forward. Unfortunately I don't think Long is any more than a CB4 at best.
Of all the secondary players, it's really Long I'm the most disappointed in. Fuller played all of 12 games before we gave him signal calling duties under a different coaching philosophy. Aside from a sophomore slump, he had this extra layer. Not the results you want o se but not entirely unexpected.
Long, however, is a 3 year guy who showed well at a major college and was looking to be on the upside last year. While this year will be his best statistically, every time I've seen him he looks absolutely lost and confused.
Since all our DB's seem to have taken a step back, it seems that the critical eye really needs to be focused more on the coaching staff and less on the players.
