Maybe not.
If memory serves me, we drafted JJIII in 2017 in the 3rd/4th round. He came into camp and competed against the incumbent Mo Alexander all throughout camp.
Alexander won the job and started the first several games.
Then, out of the blue (at least to the fans), Alexander was a healthy scratch for Week 5 and Johnson was elevated to starter. JJIII went on to have a great game as the starter recording an INT against Russell Wilson. The following week, Alexander was released.
I've been clamoring for the Rams to get an inside presence at LB, and would welcome a move to get a serious upgrade outside of the organization.
But we can't rule out that Earnest Johnson might be that upgrade.
