McVay abandoned a perfectly functioning running game back when the game was still very much in doubt.
Morris is looking like a rare bad coaching hire by McVay. He’s stubborn, inflexible, and can’t make in game adjustments. Terrible combination. Morris’ D dodged many bullets in those first 3 games, but certainly not today. How much more of this crap will McVay tolerate?
I would sit Long and Rapp and insert Rochell and Burgess. What the heck do we have to lose? Both are faster and have better instincts, IMO.
Put Ramsey on other team’s #1 WR, dammit! This is no time to get cute, just let him erase the other team’s best weapon and go from there. Worked quite nicely last year.
Scrap this bend-don’t-break soft zone crap. It’s killing this D, practically neutering it. If Morris can’t do that then fire his butt. I’m serious. Our D was exposed by the Cards and their makeshift OL, for crying out loud. Our D is a laughing stock today. I’ve been warning about this for 3 weeks and today my worst fears were realized.
Our D was #1 last year and excelled for years before that at containing Murray and Wilson through good years and bad. But look at us now.
This team was an expert at self inflicted wounds today. I literally lost count by the 3rd quarter. Turnovers, penalties, bad reads, missed tackles, missed assignments (contain, for example), countless 3rd-and 14 or more conversions given up, even a delay of game penalty by a 12 year vet QB in our own damned stadium! We practicality beat ourselves, tbh.
Watching this game film will be a painful experience. I can’t even imagine. I’m certainly not gonna rewatch it, that’s for sure. Life’s too short.
Did Garrett get any snaps? And if not, why not? Nobody else was pressuring Murray or setting contain today. It was as if they’d never played or practiced before today.
I can only think of 2 facets in all 3 phases combined today that played even fairly well. Namely, Hendo and the OL. That’s it. Everyone else should donate their weeks game check to charity. Disgusting.
