I would be surprised if there was any established procedure to do something like that. If so that would seem to open a can of worms. One worm that would crawl out would be the award to the Saints that would have allowed them to go to the SB instead of the Rams. I doubt anyone in NFL authority wants that type of power. Where would you stop ? Better to say it was an error that cost the Lions the game and the appropriate people have been disciplined in some unspecific manner.
