Los Angeles Rams: Players Cut From Every Team That the Rams Should Sign

Over 800 players were cut over the last two days. With those, some NFL dreams are forever over while others will begin somewhere else. The Los Angeles Rams released their initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, but like every team, they’ll see what’s out there and possibly put in a waiver claim or two. Here are names from every team that the Rams should look at.

Chicago Bears – LB Charles Snowden

The Rams seem to like who they have at linebacker, but they are relatively thin with only four bodies at the spot. Charles Snowden would make a lot of sense. He’s a versatile player with the ability to play both inside and outside linebacker. He was an undrafted free agent from the Bears, but the Rams did meet with him prior to the draft.

Snowden totaled an impressive two sacks in the preseason. In three games, Snowden had seven tackles, two sacks, four quarterback hits and a tackle for a loss. The Bears will want him back on the practice squad, but Snowden brings more upside than someone like Ogbonnia Okoronkwo at this point.

Honorable Mention: WR Dazz Newsome

Cincinnati Bengals – OC Lamont Gaillard

Lamont Gaillard has center/guard versatility, and spending an offseason with the Bengals, he’ll have experience in a Sean McVay-like offense. Gaillard has also spent time in the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals. What makes this even more interesting is that the Rams actually put in a waiver claim for Gaillard earlier this offseason. However, due to their spot in the waiver wire, he ended up in Cincinnati.

The Rams put Coleman Shelton on the COVID/Reserved list, opening up a spot behind Brian Allen at center. Gaillard could be someone to keep an eye on as he is someone that the team has shown interest in this summer.

Honorable Mention: DL Renell Wren

Buffalo Bills – DB Rachad Wildgoose

The Los Angeles Rams only kept four cornerbacks. If they were to keep a fifth, they probably would have kept Dont’e Deayon. That’s not to mention guys like Kareem Orr and Brontae Harris who also had good offseason. However, if the Rams are looking to add another defensive back from outside the organization, Rachad Wildgoose would be a name to watch.

Wildgoose was drafted in the sixth round by the Buffalo Bills, but actually had a decent preseason. He had a pair of pass breakups and only allowed two receptions on five targets in the final two games. He improved as the preseason went on. the Rams likely wouldn’t bring in a defensive back, but Wildgoose has some upside.

Denver Broncos – WR Seth Williams

The Rams were looking to get fast on offense this offseason which explained the TuTu Atwell pick and DeSean Jackson signing. Williams was a sixth round pick and flashed at times in camp, but the the Broncos wide receiver group is very deep led by Jerry Jeudy and Cortland Sutton. That doesn’t even mention KJ Hamler.

The Rams drafted Ben Skowronek in the draft and he made their 53-man roster. Trishton Jackson has also had a good offseason. Therefore, bringing in someone like Williams is unlikely. However, he’s an intriguing name nonetheless.

Cleveland Browns – EDGE Curtis Weaver

The Los Angeles Rams have been interested in Curtis Weaver since the draft and last year when he was cut by the Miami Dolphins, the Rams tried to put in a claim. Weaver was picked up by the Cleveland Browns and is now cut by his second team in two years.

However, the Rams showed interest in Weaver last year and with question at depth on the edge, Weaver could be a name to watch. He’s a former first round talent, but was drafted in the fifth round. Weaver will be a name to keep an eye on.

Honorable Mention: LB Tegray Scales

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – RB CJ Prosise

The Rams only kept three running backs on the roster in Darrell Henderson, Sony Michel, and Jake Funk. That’s very little depth at the position when other teams are keeping four or five minimum. CJ Prosise was drafted in the third round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016 and averaged 5.7 yards per carry as a rookie.

Prosise hasn’t had a lot of success as of late, but Prosise is someone with experience in the NFL and experience in the NFC West. Prosise might not be a name that the Rams necessarily look at, but they will likely look at the running backs available.

Honorable Mention – OC Donell Stanley

Indianapolis Colts – C Joey Hunt

Joey Hunt was drafted in the sixth round and spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks. Hunt played over 700 snaps at center for the Seahawks in 2019 before being signed by the Indianapolis Colts. To say he outperformed his draft status is an understatement.

Again, the Rams need depth behind Brian Allen. As it stands, if Allen were to go down with an injury, the Rams would have to move Corbett over and then play Bobby Evans at guard. That’s two changes on an offensive line instead of just one. Hunt is an experienced center and would add some depth where the Rams need it.

Arizona Cardinals – LB Evan Weaver

Last season when the Los Angeles Rams needed a linebacker, they opted to wait and draft one in the seventh round. That linebacker, Clay Johnston, didn’t make it past roster cuts. However, the Cardinals have a deep linebacker group and Weaver is only heading into his second year after being a very productive linebacker at Cal.

Weaver hasn’t had a great start to his NFL career, but a change of scenery might be just what he needs. Heading home to California would be a great spot.

Honorable Mention: WR KeeSean Johnson

Los Angeles Chargers: DB Donte Vaughn

The Rams saw Donte Vaughn up close in Week 1 of the preseason. In fact, it was Vaughn who intercepted Duck Hodges at the goal line as the Rams were looking to make a comeback.

Again, the Rams only kept four cornerbacks. Vaughn has an offseason with Brandon Staley who was the defensive coordinator for the Rams last season. Vaughn has great size for the cornerback position and is an intriguing name to watch.

Honorable Mention: LB Cole Christiansen

Kansas City Chiefs: WR Cornell Powell

Cornell Powell was one of the most surprising cuts after the final week of the preseason. Some thought that Powell could have a decent role in the Chiefs offense. Drafted in the fifth round, Powell brings blazing speed to the wide receiver position and also has some experience in high school as a kick returner.

The Rams cut Trishton Jackson, but Powell might be a name to watch even over Ben Skowronek who the Rams drafted in the seventh round. Powell will likely be a hot name on waivers and might not even make it to the Rams if they do put in a claim.

Honorable Mention: RB Elijah McGuire

Dallas Cowboys: LS Jake McQuaide

The Rams have been looking for a long snapper all offseason after not re-signing Jake McQuaide. McQuaide was one of the longest tenured Rams and is as reliable as it gets as a special teams player. We’ll see how Matt Orzech does, but McQuaide is at least a known commodity.

Miami Dolphins: LB Benardrick McKinney

As is the reasoning with most of the linebackers on this list, it all has to do with the fact that the Los Angeles Rams are thin at the position, especially after cutting Micah Kiser. The Rams have their two pairs for a total of four. However, bringing in a veteran like McKinney wouldn’t be a bad thing. He’s a former second round pick and had back-to-back 100 tackle seasons in 2018 and 2019 with the Houston Texans.

Honorable Mention: C Matt Skura

Philadelphia Eagles: C Harry Crider

Harry Crider was someone who I listed as a fit for the Rams in the draft. He was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Eagles, but only played 19 snaps in the preseason. At Indiana, Crider displayed good footwork, had the speed and technique that the Rams have looked for in the past, and has experience at guard and center. He posted good testing grades in both speed and agility categories as well.

Honorable Mention: RB Kerryon Johnson/Jordan Howard

Atlanta Falcons: LB Erroll Thompson

Erroll Thompson had over 200 tackles in the SEC at Mississippi State. We know how much Les Snead likes his SEC linebackers. He put together an impressive preseason that included some pretty big hits.

Next season the Rams could potentially lose Troy Reeder, Kenny Young, and Travin Howard in free agency. Erroll Thompson could be someone that is brought in now to learn the system and develop before being given a shot next year to compete for significant snaps.

Honorable Mention: OG Bryce Hargrove

New York Giants: RB Corey Clement

Corey Clement will forever be known for his performance in the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots. He hasn’t been productive since that 2018 season, but as a veteran player with experience in the postseason, Clement might be someone to look at who could bring a receiving threat and change of pace to the Rams backfield.

Jacksonville Jaguars: TE Tim Tebow

….Just kidding! That was just a test to see if you were still reading.

In all seriousness, running back might be another spot to watch with the Jaguars. Devine Ozigbo has bounced around the league since being undrafted, but he was an extremely talented college player at Nebraska. Ozigbo doesn’t have a lot of experience, but he’s someone with upside who could be worth a look.

New York Jets: OL David Moore

David Moore is someone that I was extremely high on pre-draft. He put together an incredible week at the Senior Bowl and was one of the more impressive offensive linemen in attendance. However, since being signed by the Panthers as an undrafted free agent, he’ll already be on his third team in his first NFL offseason.

Still, Moore is someone who is definitely worth a look. He’s a big guy, but he moves well to the second level and displays the power that the Rams lacked up front last season. It might take a year or two for him to develop, but he has upside.

Detroit Lions: LB Jahlani Tavai

Tavai was heading into his third year and as a second round pick, his transition to the NFL has not gone smoothly. To say he’s been rough is putting it mildly. He was overdrafted into a bad situation with high expectations with the Lions. A change of scenery and being a depth piece might be the reset that he needs to get back on track.

Honorable Mention: OT Tyrell Crosby

Green Bay Packers: OG Cole Van Lanen

The Los Angeles Rams have had their success with Wisconsin offensive linemen. Rob Havenstein has been a staple at right tackle and David Edwards looks to be the same at left guard. Van Lanen has bounced around between guard and tackle, but couldn’t quite settle in at Green Bay with the Packers.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Van Lanen might be an upside guy that the Rams can develop to play multiple positions as they have done with Edwards and Evans. It also helps that he’s been in Matt LeFleur’s offense all offseason which is similar to McVay’s.

Carolina Panthers: LB Paddy Fisher

Paddy Risher played almost 100 snaps in the preseason and totaled seven tackles. He was a productive college player with 86 tackles last season at Northwestern. For an undrafted free agent, he showed a lot of upside. Again, the Rams could be looking for linebackers next year. Fisher could be someone that they try to bring into the system now.

New England Patriots: DL Bill Murray

Bill Murray was a little bit of a surprise cut for the Patriots. The defensive linemen out of William and Mary had put of an impressive preseason that included two sacks against the New York Giants. He stuck on the Patriots practice squad last season and might do so once again. The Rams are deep on the defensive line, but Murray could be a name to look for.

Las Vegas Raiders: CB Isaiah Johnson

Isaiah Johnson was a fourth round draft pick just three years ago. The Rams don’t have a lot of depth at cornerback and will be relying on players like David Long and Robert Rochell behind Jalen Ramsey and Darious Williams. Bringing on a veteran like Johnson might not be a bad thing to consider.

Honorable Mention: WR Keelan Doss

Baltimore Ravens: OT Adrian Ealy

The Los Angeles Rams have depth at tackle, but you can never have too many offensive linemen. That’s especially the case when those offensive linemen are coming from Baltimore. Ealy put together a very solid preseason, allowing just one pressure on 38 total snaps.

Pro Football Focus had him as the second-highest rated offensive tackle in the preseason. The Rams have players like Tremayne Anchrum on the roster who they like, but Ealy could be someone to consider putting a claim in for.

New Orleans Saints: CB Bryan Mills

The Los Angeles Rams met with Bryan Mills during the pre-draft process, but he signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. Mills played at NC Central, but was someone I listed as a potential fit for the Rams. He played bigger than his frame and was a very physical player. Mills might be someone to watch if the Rams want to add a fifth defensive back.

Seattle Seahawks: WR Penny Hart

Penny Hart had a very good training camp and good offseason. His most impressive offseason also happens to come in an offense led by Shane Waldron who runs a similar scheme as McVay. Hart and TuTu Atwell have similar body types, but Hart would also bring experience as a punt returner. He averaged 17.6 yards per punt return in college and could bring something in that area.

Pittsburgh Steelers: K Sam Sloman

Again…another joke just to see if you’re paying attention.

In all seriousness once again, Shakur Brown might be a name to look for here. Brown missed the Steelers roster, but prior to camp, they gave him the highest guaranteed salary of any undrafted free agent. Brown brings an ability to play in the slot but can also play outside. He also showed impressive ball skills in college with seven interceptions in 26 games.

Houston Texans: OL Drake Jackson

Jackson was waived by the Detroit Lions and then picked up by the Texans. The Texans then waived him during final roster cuts.

The Rams didn’t draft a single interior offensive lineman during the draft and it was a very deep center draft. Grabbing someone like Jackson would give them a developmental player to have behind Brian Allen.

Tennessee Titans: WR Dez Fitzpatrick

The Tennessee Titans traded up in the fourth round to draft Dez Fitzpatrick. Four months later the Titans are cutting him. Fitzpatrick fits what the Los Angeles Rams usually look for in a wide receiver. He’s physical and a good route-runner. With his upside, he might be worth rostering over someone like Skowronek or Jackson as a sixth wide receiver.

Minnesota Vikings: LB Tuf Borland

The Vikings linebacker room was very crowded. That’s not the case with the Los Angeles Rams. The Vikings will try to bring Borland on the practice squad, and he might make it. However, Borland is worth a look for the Rams. Snead likes his Ohio State players which is where Borland played.

Borland displayed the leadership qualities that the Rams value, but he lacks speed, especially in coverage. The Rams would have to make a spot open on the current 53 for Borland which is unlikely. However, he’s a name to keep an eye on nonetheless.

Washington Football Team: CB Jimmy Moreland

What made Troy Hill so valuable last season and so difficult to lose was his ability to play both inside and outside cornerback. Moreland brings that same ability and is just 26 years old. According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Moreland was the third most productive cornerback from the slot last season.

Again, the Rams will be trusting David Long to play this role, but Moreland is a proven commodity and should be a hot name on the waiver wire.

San Francisco 49ers: C Jake Brendel

We’re finally at our final team, the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers cut center Jake Brendel on Tuesday. The Rams-49ers rivalry paired with the McVay-Shanahan rivalry, it would not be surprising to see the Rams try and poach someone from San Francisco.

Again, the Los Angeles Rams could use someone behind Brian Allen. Brendel allowed just one pressure on 70 offensive snaps in the preseason with the 49ers. He had an impressive 75.2 passing grade via PFF and was the second-highest graded center in the preseason. Given the similarities in the McVay and Shanahan scheme, Brendel could be worth taking a look at.
