Yes, Evans has played bad, but Brian Allen has also looked very good and has gotten stronger. Also last night I felt Coleman Shelton had a solid game, so I'm less concerned at Center, but Evans just can't pass block and is not staying engaged on running plays to this point either.
My concern is that we haven't actually seen Allen is a game this year. He appears to be good in practice, but... "we talking 'bout practice, man, we talking 'bout practice."
Right now, Evans looks like a 3rd round bust. I think they won't give up on him just yet, but he doesn't even look good enough to be a backup.
So what we have right now is a very thin starting OL, with not much in talent behind them. Heaven help us if we sustain any injuries to the starting 5. They made a huge investment in Stafford, yet didn't go far enough to give him insurance with the protection up front.
Allen also played well in the scrimmage against the Cowboys, which got him noticed. Agreed, we won't know until September 12th, however, his added weight & Strength is obvious and hopefully will transform onto the playing field.
