Colin Cowherd Reacts To The Rams’ Crushing Injury

The Los Angeles Rams were dealt a tough blow just before the start of training camp as Cam Akers tore his Achilles earlier this week. Sean McVay is now left with a thin running back room with just over one month to before the regular season.

The news of Akers’ injury stunned most of the NFL world on Tuesday, as many wondered how the Rams would move forward at the position. Although Darrell Henderson figures to fill in well for the time being, some fans and media members thought that the latest report spelled major trouble in LA.

Among those concerned about the Rams is FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd. He explained that McVay has now lost yet another major contributor to his team from last year and that the franchise’s roster is looking a bit thin headed into training camp.

“Now the Rams suddenly have no depth at running back and no No. 1 running back. They also lost their No. 2 tight end Garrett Everrett to Seattle. Their defensive coordinator is now the Chargers head coach. Their passing game coordinator is now the Seahawks offensive coordinator. They lost Michael Brockers to Detroit. They lost Malcolm Brown, which didn’t make news, to Miami. And they lost their top safety John Johnson to Cleveland and their third cornerback Troy Hill to Cleveland,” Cowherd said, listing the Rams losses from last year on Tuesday’s episode of “The Herd.”

“We think of the Cowboys as dysfunctional and not a Super Bowl contender. We think of the Rams as highly functional and a Super Bowl contender with a great coach. But the Rams and Cowboys are a lot closer than you think. They’ve got a handful of high end stars and very little depth.”


Cowherd makes a fine point considering the fact that many of the players and coaches that the Rams lost in the offseason were integral to last year’s success. The major change that McVay and franchise leadership decided to make was to trade for disgruntled Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, to fill the team’s biggest void on offense.

However, amidst the buzz surround the Rams new signal-caller, the rest of the roster seems to have taken a hit. Cowherd acknowledges that defensive stars like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey remain, but he’s unsure if that’s enough for the team to get through a full NFL season. If just one of the roster’s major contributors goes down with an injury, the Rams could be in trouble.
