Just to Clarify: I really like him and that is why I said It would be cool for him to get some touches.

The joke was comparing the situation to the Kurt Warner story (and used Funk because of his cool name and because his odds are elevated being a rookie), as if it was a good omen. Just trying to lighten the mood after the bad news.
