Bojorquez is a legit NFL punter, not a camp leg. Now, Hekker is this franchise's all-time best punter and deserves some benefit of the doubt. But it's absolutely true that he was part of the steep decline on special teams last year and I think he needed a true fire lit under him for 2021.
I think it's 80/20 that Hekker keeps his job. I think the shot across the bow has been seen. But I also believe this was absolutely about giving him notice for 2022 that if he doesn't rebound back to being a top-3 punter they
will move on next spring (and save $3.6M of cap space in the process). You simply cannot pay a punter 50% more (in salary cap space) than the next highest paid punter in the league and have him be average.
