49er’s Skule, Moore injured during Monday’s OTA practice.

With the 49er's, maybe getting injured is just their style.

49er’s Skule tears his ACL; Moore tears his Achilles during Monday’s OTA practice.

Brutal. Discouraging. Sad. Those are a few words to describe the 49ers' never-ending injury situation. First, it was running back Jeff Wilson, who will miss at least the first six games. Now, the 49ers have lost swing tackle Justin Skule, who tore his ACL during Monday’s practice, and safety Tarvarius Moore, who tore his Achilles during the same practice.

San Francisco signed safety Tony Jefferson Monday, but that was before Moore went down, and we had talked about Jefferson before the NFL Draft. I imagine he was in the team’s plans before Moore’s injury. He was progressing into a terrific sub-package player. Moore is also in a contract year.

Skule started 12 games for the Niners during the past two seasons. He was no lock to make the roster, but Skule’s experience with the team would have given him an upper hand over some of the younger players.

Fifth-round rookie Jaylon Moore has worked at left tackle, and he’ll have an opportunity to earn that swing tackle spot. Shon Coleman is a veteran; though he hasn’t played in two years, he will compete as well. Finally, don’t forget about Colton McKivitz, who was a tackle in college.

Injuries are a part of the sport, but it’s a bummer whenever someone goes down, especially before the season starts. These guys work their butts off all offseason, and their year is over before it starts. Here’s to a speedy recovery for Moore and Skule.
