The McVay and Shanahan additions to the division have relegated him to 3rd best coach. He just doesn't have the schematic edge required to stick with these guys. In spite of having by far the best QB he has not sniffed meaningful big games since those two came online in the division.
He tried to address this, to his credit, by hiring away one of our coaches. But going forward IMO Seattle has a coaching change in their near future and from there it is possible they deal their veteran QB.
This season they will hang a ton of points on teams and probably finish 2nd behind the Rams in the division. They might even win the division again. But they don't have the defense to sustain one and done playoff survival. And the above will lead to that coaching change either this next offseason or the one after IMO. Carroll's window with them is coming to a close.
