Los Angeles Rams: 5 Prospects the Rams hope fall to the second round

By Blaine Grisak of DowntownRams

The Los Angeles Rams don’t select until the 57th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Here are five players the Rams hope fall to the second round.

Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams don’t select until the 57th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That means Les Snead and co. will be hoping that a plethora of talented prospects fall into their lap in the second round. With a potential run on quarterbacks and wide receivers, it is very possible. Here are five prospects that the Rams hope don’t get selected tonight in the first round.

iOL Creed Humphrey, Oklahoma

The Los Angeles Rams are in need of a center and Creed Humphrey might be the best center in the draft. In all likelihood, Humphrey will get selected in the later parts of the first round, however, the Rams will be crossing their fingers and hoping that isn’t the case.

The Rams will be hoping a team falls in love with a wide receiver or a team in the 20s fall in love and trade up for a quarterback. Even if Humphrey falls out of the first round, it’ll be difficult for him to make it all the way to 57, but not getting selected tonight at least gives the Rams a chance.

LB Jamin Davis, Kentucky

It is my belief that it’s unlikely that the Los Angels Rams would select a linebacker at 57. However, if the right linebacker is there, it might not be that crazy of an idea. One player that might be an exception to the Rams taking a linebacker at 57 is Jamin Davis.

Davis fits exactly what the Rams look for in some of their linebackers. He has that sideline to sideline speed and he’s build like a safety with very good length. Davis would be a difference maker in the middle of the Rams defense. However, there is a chance that Davis is drafted towards the end of the first round.

OT/OG Alex Leatherwood, Alabama

Leatherwood is another offensive lineman on this list, but he’s an elite player that could get overlooked as teams may not know whether to put him at guard or tackle. Teams also could be higher on Liam Eichenberg or Jalen Mayfield.

The Rams wouldn’t have an issue on where to put Leatherwood. Sean McVay likes his offensive linemen to have versatile and Leatherwood would be a perfect heir to Andrew Whitworth. In all likelihood, Leatherwood is taken by Indianapolis or Pittsburgh at the end of the first round, but if they go in a different direction, it could allow the Alabama tackle to drop.

EDGE Jean Phillips, Miami

Edge rusher is another position that the Rams will likely wait to address unless the right player is there at 57. Jean Phillips certainly fits that bill. He has the perfect size, strength, explosiveness, and length that teams love. He could go as high as the top-20.

However, in the Rams’ case, they will hope teams back off due to Phillips’ medical history. Phillips has suffered two ankle injuries and then broke his wrist in a non-football injury. If teams want clean medical, they may go in another direction.

CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech

Caleb Farley is a top-three cornerback in this draft. However, over the last week, Farley’s medical has become a true concern for teams. Farley has been dealing with a back injury for over two year which has included two surgeries. Doctors have said that Farley should be cleared for training camp, but teams are still weary.

I don’t expect Farley to ever drop to the Rams at 57, but if he did, it would be an absolute steal. However, if Farley falls it leaves another very talented cornerback on the board heading into the second round which could allow another talented cornerback like Asante Samuel Jr. to fall. Farley falling could help the Rams, but not in the way that some would expect.
