In his presser Snead explained that there are different type WR’s that can strain a D.
Speedy ones, of course, IF they run good routes and have good hands.
But tall ones that can jump and catch contested balls are a terror, too, and require D’s to gameplan for.
Either type could accomplish the goal of stressing a D deep and opening up more underneath routes.
This is insightful for me for three reasons.
First, it tells me that the Rams are looking at adding personnel in the WR room. I'm now pretty certain they will add a WR in free agency or the draft to be a vertical threat.
Secondly, it confirms that route running is high on their criteria. So far I don't believe they've drafted someone who wasn't a good route runner since McVay has been coach.
Third, I'm gonna keep a close eye on WR Ihir Smith-Marsette. He's super speedy. And he's 6'2" and can jump.
