It's a matter of how involved McVay wants to get. That doesn't mean he runs it. Personally, I am for the "hire a guy to cover the side you did not coordinate and stay out of that room" model of head coach/coordinator relations. So, a defensive head coach hands everything to his OC, an offensive head coach hands everything to his DC.
